The Gourmet Tea

Some Inspiration

This little tea shop is awesome, its designed like a box that opens up into a full on store. This store can disappear from view...and transform into a box...(We Love)
The designer Alan Chu says his inspiration comes from the 35 colourful tea tins which are sold in the gourmet shop.
Alan Chu is really good at working with small spaces and coming up with attractive innovative designs that just blow you away...he has done many projects similar to this one. Check it out for some inspiration.

Her Art Work

Genius
Feminist/Artist/Visionary/Poet/Muse

Yayoi Kusama (草間 彌生 or 草間 弥生 Kusama Yayoi, born March 22, 1929) is a Japanese artist and writer. Throughout her career she has worked in a wide variety of mediums, including painting, collage, sculpture, performance art and environmental installations, most of which exhibit her thematic interest in psychedelic colours, repetition and pattern. A precursor of the pop art, minimalist and feminist art movements, Kusama influenced contemporaries such as Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg.

Although largely forgotten after departing the New York art scene in the early 1970s, Kusama is now acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan, and an important voice of the avant-garde.

Kusama's work is based in conceptual art and shows some attributes of feminism, minimalism, surrealism, Art Brut, pop art, and abstract expressionism, and is infused with autobiographical, psychological, and sexual content.

Kusama is also a published novelist and poet, and has created notable work in film and fashion design. Major retrospectives of her work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art and Tate Modern, whilst in 2008 Christies New York sold a work by her for $5.1 million, a record for a living female artist.

This week Louis Vuitton unveiled dotty Yayoi Kusama collab a fashion video in honour of Japanese pop artist Yayoi Kusama. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL41C3D338071A221F

The dance clip sees bespotted models accessorised with the polka dot bags and apparel which comprise the French luxury label's team-up with Kusama.

The brand unveiled the new team-up on Tuesday, with key items including shoes, handbags, shirts, skirts and sunglasses. This coincides with New York's Whitney Museum of American Art's latest exhibition of Kusama's work, which runs July 12 - September 30.

The collection's theme is bold, graphic polka dots displayed in an array of sizes and colours, emphasising the artist's signature style.

Louis Vuitton will roll out seven pop-up shops to mark its capsule collection with the Japanese artist.

The first shop is set to open inside the Louis Vuitton boutique in New York on July 10, two days before Kusama’s touring retrospective opens at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Next, polka dots — Kusama’s signature motif — will spring up in Asia, at Pacific Place in Hong Kong, Ngee Ann City in Singapore, and Isetan’s Shinjuku branch in Tokyo.

Following those launches, Tokyo, the city Kusama calls home, will get a second location in Dover Street Market in Ginza. Then the two largest Kusama concept stores will open at two department stores: an 860-square-feet shop in Printemps in Paris on August 23; and a 1,375-square-feet boutique in Selfridges in London on August 24. The Paris location will be centered around polka dots, while the London shop will revolve around Kusama’s famous pumpkin sculptures.

The pop-up outlets will be open for one to two months, offering a range of spotted trench coats, handbags, and other accessories created with the artist for Louis Vuitton. The European branches will also exclusively offer tentacle-festooned handbags two months ahead of their scheduled October launch date.

Yayoi Kusama is everything a creative yearns to be and some. Knowing such a divine human being exists only expires a SheMoney Movement like us to dream bigger.

A great who at the age of 83 has pop culture eating out the palm of her hand. A true inspiration to all woman and a testament of artistic brilliance.

Our Shero for the week.

10 Pop-Up shop facts

The clear advantage of a Pop Up is that it is custom designed to suit the particular needs of each client.

2. A Pop Up is a smart solution when you want to stand out in your existing marketplace or expand into a new one.

3. Pop ups unannounced, quickly draw in  crowds, and then disappear or morph into something else, adding to retail the fresh feel and exclusivity of a gallery.

4. POP-UP stores fit right in with the Entertainment Economy, the Experience Economy, the Surprise Economy, and so on. It's about surprising consumers with temporary 'performances', guaranteeing exclusivity because of the limited time span.

5.Pop-up space helps tenants and landlords find each other so both can benefit.

6. Pop-up stores renovate deserted spaces

7. Pop-up retailing is fast becoming (again) one of the most popular ways to win the hearts, minds and wallets of consumers. It’s a trend that really became prevalent at the start of the Recession (when vacant retail store fronts became abundant), but it has stuck around and has even grown in prominence.

8. Pop-up store require a breadth of services — deep consumer insights on the target, location scouting, great design that is as functional as it is beautiful, and an on-site staff that can authentically represent the brand. It pays to find one agency that can nurture the development of your brand’s pop-up experience from start to finish, we aim to be that agency email us to arrange a consultation -www.TrunksandCast@gmail.com

9. Part of the pop-up appeal is that they come in all kinds of flavours with all kinds of purposes. Pop-ups are effective in generating buzz, reaching new audiences, testing a concept or building community in addition to driving retail sales.

10. Pop-up shops are a low-risk investment. As it is temporary, retailers are not tied into long-term contracts.

Pop Up Stores

The history according to us and the elders

Pop up stores have been around for a while. My first "Pop Up" experience was at my grandmothers house right outside, in her front yard, she had a "Pop Up Restaurant" going on during  lunch hour selling magwinya and Hot meals to the locals.

These days however, these informal sector establishments have been upgraded to fancy and creative spaces that offer a  speciality product for a short period of time.
The original concept is derived from Japanese consumer culture and its devotion to rare products.Consumers would arrive at a moments notice and purchase available stock which would be sold out within hours, the store would close down and the store would only be functional again when the store owner received new stock.
So where did this grand scheme of spontaneous hustlenomics originate from?
Well we have pioneers like Go Vacant and many other big brands who have followed in their footsteps to thank for making our retail experiences adventurous and not just one dimensional as they have been in the past.
We are proud to be part of this rising demographic.
Keep a look out for all the Pop up trends popping up all around the world.
